When one researches the many cross-connections embedded in the evolving Maxwell/Tesla storage tech - between Elon Musk, Shirley Meng, John Goodenough, Jeff Dahn, Christopher Fell, Sunny Hy and more - yes that John Goodenough - he is also involved in this- with the so called glass electrode "dry battery" which is really more of an ultracap than a battery... it is not much of a leap of faith to imagine that a major breakthrough in battery storage technology is poised to be announced in 2020.
This is no secret - they are coauthors on published papers and patent apps. Now imagine this: Mills or Holmlid or their offshoots - are able to sneak in through the back door with a dense hydrogen charge carrier... UDH is not absolutely needed, as lithium supplies are greater than first thought, but it could help with weight elimination. Bottom line ... once you get a battery up to a reliable energy density of greater than 500 Whr/kg (about twice the current state of the art level) and with fast recharging - then the petrol-fueled ICE becomes basically "ancient history" and oil prices will plummet. Unfortunately, the most powerful companies on the planet as of today have their wealth at stake and will fight and legislate against this technology till the bitter end. Or else they will buy in. If you are selling Tesla short, it makes more sense to eat crow and sell Aramco or Exxon short, especially if you see them buying into Tesla... which they will do when the trends become a little more obvious.
