By the date on the paper it seems the discovery and research is old stuff. However, the result may be very important in understanding the spin coupling in coherent systems. I am surprised that it has not been discussed here on Vortex in the past. The research may have been kept in the dark by NAS. It would not surprise me. I wonder what Jones and Axil have to say about its lack of publicity? The statement in the paper about being able to design the superatoms with specific resonances pertinent to spin coupling and the allowed higher (than one spin quanta) spin states (greater spin energy) is exciting IMHO. It suggests energy transitions akin to NMR manipulation in nuclei, involving “weak force” interactions and mass transitions that may explain the LENR e nergy source. It may be that Rossi has created superatoms with Ni and K or other light metals—Al or Li for example—with substantial high temperature stability and capability to handle substantial mass-to-phonic energy transitions. Using Niobium-Iridium as a thermoelectric couple for direct electrical energy production would make good sense given its high temperature tolerance. NASA would be happy as well as the rest of civilization. Other high temperature couples or schemes for generating voltage at high temperatures that are cheaper should be developed sought IMHO. If this is found to be true, then it could be evidence of superatomic nickel, which has the formula of Ni2O2 – as opposed to NiO or NiO2. Rossi may have formed superatomic nickel inadvertently, since he does not mention that this was deliberate. In fact he doesn’t mention superatomic at all. Nickel powder is known to oxidize in contact with alumina, so in addition to some of it melting at 1500C, some of it would oxidize. The superatom thus could from in situ. The reason for the superatom formula being Ni2O2 instead of NiO is in the Wiki entry. And it is worth noting that the normal oxide of nickel has a melting point which is a whopping 500 degrees C higher than the metal, so this fits the circumstances. Hafnium has been called a “supercatalyst” but is toxic and extremely expensive. It is mentioned in several LENR patents including that of the German mystery company PURRATIO AG.
