Not very helpful to add this, but I had reservations about taking a book 
value for the emissivity from the beginning. Admittedly I was using a 
optical system for measuring temperature (of glass molds) many years 
ago, but we learnt that you /had/ to set the emissivity by using a 
thermocouple.  I don't buy that it as too difficult to add one to the 
outside of reactor at Lugano.
