Hello Eduard Struber,
My name is Peter Kovacs. I live in Germany and joined the project in
2016. I am part of the Project Management Comitee, which handles some
managing aspects of the project.
I mostly help others, with the time left I try to develop some
improvements on Apache OpenOffice. As much as my time and skill allows.

I am 75 years young, retired with many happy hours coding in C++.
Thank you for your interest in Apache OpenOffice.
American English is my native language. My mother used her Masters degree
to teach English at Reagan High School in Austin, Texas. My father was an
Electrical Engineer who made his career in the U.S. Air Force. Were you
willing to permit me to proofread and edit articles, I could reasonably be
expected to clarify instructions and grammar in the articles and C++
program notes submitted by persons who are not native English speakers.
Sounds great, everyone is welcome. And everyone can help here. Your long
standing c++ skills are of value since the code is old, and we are at
least 10 years behind modern way of coding.
Please send me a submission that is not clear in its instructions, and let
me send you back my edited version to see if my changes are an enhancement
to the original. If it looks to you that my changes help, then send me
some more work to proofread and improve.
I did omit the "84" from my gmail address once, so I know to slow down and
sleep on my work before re-reading any of my corrections before submitting
my edits to Apache Open Office. I also expect that other volunteers will
be checking what ever I may submit.
We do not really have a workflow that assign work, since we work on
voluntary bases. However I try to explain as good as I can where you
find all you need to make a decision where your skills fit in best.
Remeber we work all as equals. There is no rank or hierarchy here. We
participate together on this project in order to create something for all.
We talk per email mailing list about development on
[email protected] (short dev or [email protected]). Best to subscribe
there and and receive all developer mails. Of course you can send
questions per mail there. Also if you want to discuss Ideas, you can
send a mail there. Since a lot of people will receive this email, do not
send Addresses or phone numbers.
I recommend to start building OpenOffice as a first experience by
yourself. A guide you find bellow at [1]. For windows please give a hint
on the development mailing list so fellow developers can provide the
files you need. If you have issues please ask on the mailing list. If
you have improvements please request an account for the "Mwiki" with
your preferred username and password on the
[email protected] list. An admin will create the account
for you.
for Contribution you can use github.com as a low entry point. Sign up
there for an account. Our Project can be found at [2]. You can take a
look at pull request [3] and review them and give your feedback. If you
want to add your work we recommend to create a pull request and it goes
into the review process as the ones you see. A guide how this can be
done you find at [4].
We handle Tickets on our ticketsystem bugzilla [5]. There you find a lot
what we need to test if they are still an issue or not. Or we need to
fix them. The things we really need to work on you find at [6]. You can
read without an account. If you want to edit request an account at
[email protected]. You will need to provide an email.
I hope this is enough to get you a a first overview into the project. We
have gathered on our "Help wanted" page [7] more Information. I hope to
read from you in future. If there are questions please ask them on dev.
All the best
Peter
