PPTP client available for *nix (well, the Free ones) at: http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/ PPTP *nix server at: http://www.poptop.org/ > Are there downsides to this solution i'm not seeing > (besides a possible decrease in encryption level)? We run VNC here on a LAN. We run VNC over ssh on this LAN. PPTP gives you an encrypted tunnel between LANs (or between your client and the LAN your PPTP server is on), but it doesn't do anything for security on the LAN where your VNCserver resides. Unless you're certain that no boxes on your LAN are compromised (more-or-less impossible, unless they're all switched off), then you shouldn't really run insecure protocols on it. I'd probably say that you're more likely to have your VNC session sniffed at one of the two ends than between the two LANs, so I'm not convinced of the usefulness of VLANs for this. They're very useful when you've users wanting to access all your LANs facilites without leaving your firewall looking like a swiss cheese. Of course, they're a single point of attack/failure as well. -- Illtud Daniel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Uwch Ddadansoddwr Systemau Senior Systems Analyst Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru National Library of Wales Yn siarad drosof fy hun, nid LlGC - Speaking personally, not for NLW --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the line: 'unsubscribe vnc-list' in the message BODY See also: http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/intouch.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------
