Depends on if you are running a firewall or router in front of your VNC
server. If you are, you'll need to allow the VNC ports to pass through the
router and/or firewall and to the destination machine.

Connecting locally will not involve the firewall or router, but connecting
from the internet most likely will. Also, be sure you have to correct
public IP address for access to the machine from the outside.

I have installed vnc server on the windows 2000 server
and started vnc service, setup password when prompted
and I have used local machine to the server and was
able to see the server fine. I came home, dialed in to
my isp and then started vnc viewer, I have entered the
IP address of the server, and then nothing happens. I
have checked the taskbar and see no vncviwer runnning.
After I clicked OK, vncviewer also disappears. Any
ideas on how to set up vnc using tcp/ip? Thanks for
your help.
