Hi, I have installed VNC on 4 servers here, 3 work fine. The 4th one had an old installation that had stopped working (I inherited this box) so removed the service, did an uninstall, and re-installed VNC. I then added the registry keys and then the service. The service appeared so I started it. No icon appeared in the System Tray but this is documented so I ran the Service Helper - no icon, logged off and on again - no icon, rebooted - no icon. The service is starting fine - no messages in the event log or anything. When I select any of the items like "Show About Box" or "Show User Settings" I get the message "No existing instance of WinVNC could be contacted". When I try to connect from a client PC I get "This server does not have a valid password enabled. Until a password is set, incoming connections cannot be accepted." Interestingly, if I run WinVNC (App Mode) on the server, I get an Icon in my system tray but still cannot connect to the server from the client - same error as above - however, I can now see the About Box and User Settings etc. I have tried several complete uninstalls, used regedit to clear ALL registry entries to do with VNC, copied over the registry entries from another machine that works etc - all to no avail. I've also had a pretty good search through the archives for this mailing list but couldn't find anything similar and have read all the documentation. Note : the server it won't run on is a Windows 2000 Advanced Server, one of the other machines is an identical Win 2K Adv Server and that runs fine, the other 2 machines are SBS 2000 Server and a plain Windows 2000 Server - which also run fine. All machines have all latest hot fixes and service packs etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
