If your workstation is directly connected to the Internet, you should be able to do what you want to do with VNC. The directions are included with the download of VNC. However, most companies would not be directly on the Internet for security reasons. If the workstation is not directly on the internet, then you have more of a problem. You may have to go through a firewall, and your network administrator might teach you some new English words that aren't in the dictionary if you try to do that by yourself! On the other hand, it might be allowed by company policy, so you have to ask. Last, if the workstation isn't connected to the Internet in any way at all, a direct modem connection would allow what you want. Again, your network administrator would be able to help you with that.
