You _should_ be able to force nautilus to display on :1 with:

  nautilus --display :1

The other applications which automatically choose the right display are
probably checking the DISPLAY environment variable which you can check
with:

  echo $DISPLAY

Nautilus might be ignoring this for some reason, but I don't know why.
