One other thing you will need to do if you use kde is start the server with 
16 bits per pixel (bpp). the flag "-depth 16" will do it.

If you use xdm, you can put this line in your /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers file
:40 local /usr/local/bin/Xvnc :40  -httpd /usr/lib/vnc/classes \
- -dontdisconnect -desktop "KB9MCI" -co /usr/lib/X11/rgb -geometry 900x510 \
- -depth 16

This will start the webserver on 5840 and vnc on 5890.  this should show you 
a login screen if it works.
