OK, it appears that my statement about the quirk was due to a brain freeze on my part back when ;).
With VNC 3.3.9 running as a service on NT4SP6a, I never have had a problem with being forced off when I "log on" to the machine. In other words, suppose the machine hasbeen rebooted. I log on via VNC, and am faced with the NT login screen. I can log in to NT and go right to work without the NT session being disconnected and forcing me to log back in as it switches to a "user" setting. I suppose it is possible that this is due to it running as a service, but at one point I did not have the VNC password in the local account I used meshed with the "default" password - consequently, I still had to log on via VNC with different passwords depending on whether the machine had been logged in locally or not. All else being equal, I still tend to think that Phil's problem is a different "default" resolution on his machine. WIll be interesting to see what actually happens when he checks it out. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alex Angelopoulos" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday/2002 January 08 05:54 Subject: Re: Throwout when logging in - Win98SE : Now that's an interesting idea Martin. : : Other than the resolution change issue, I have never had that problem with VNC, but :I have had a "difficult" time getting it to : understand that it has a password set for both what I refer to as "machine" mode and :"user" mode - so I am going to make no : judgments : : I *am* posting a separate followon, though, detailing my little oddity... : : ----- Original Message ----- : From: "Martin Kemp" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> : To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> : Sent: Tuesday/2002 January 08 05:34 : Subject: RE: Throwout when logging in - Win98SE : : : : Phil, I assume by 'mode change' problem you mean what Alex is describing - : : the change of resolution after login? : : : : Using the sequence Alex described: : : (a) log on via VNC : : (b) enter your Windows machine/network password : : (c) you get disconnected/reconnected : : : : What's usually happening here is that you're logging in first with the VNC : : service, but once you've logged in your VNC session will get chucked out. : : You then need to log into VNC again as the user you've just logged in as in : : windows (possibly with a different password - at least on win2k, which I : : use). : : : : Therefore, to my knowledge it is not possible to use VNC to log into your : : machine AND use the same VNC session to use the machine once you've logged : : in.
