I assume you mean (1280x768) possibly... Not that it matters for this. I also assume you are using Windows as your laptop platform for Method (1); for Method (2), you could have a Unix platform but the description is for a Windows host.
There are two ways to do this; one is experimental, the other is annoying. (1) EXPERIMENTAL - SCREEN SCALING The "experimental" method is to scale the screen and AFAIK can only be done with the VNCViewer or the ActiveX control (not the built-in Java client - although I would appreciatebeing corrected about this). When you start the VNCViewer applet "raw", if you click the "Options" button on the COnnection Details window you will see a check-box at lower left which is labeled "scale by _ /_ ". Give it a low ratio - to drop 1280 width to 1024 width, about 4/5 should do it. If you already have the connection made, you can right-click on the title bar, select "Connection Options" and get to the same dialog. Note that you can also grab "save connection info as..." to preserve your settings in a .vnc file when you are done. (2) ANNOYING - CHANGE HOST RES FROM CLIENT Just connect to the host, right-click the desktop, and change resolution as you normally would. WARNING - IF USING NT MAKE CERTAIN THE SELECTED DISPLAY SETTINGS WILL WORK BEFORE YOU TRY THIS. As soon as you hit "OK" or "Apply", you will be disconnected from the server.
