there was some discussion on the vnc/xfree lists concerning

the integration of vnc into a standard x server.

now i've found something very interesting:

in my brothers company there are a lot of neoware terminals

installed (diskless linux/x11 based thin clients).

the desktop of this devices can be shadowed via the vnc

protocol (for support/bigbrother purposes). and it works

really fast! last week i've had a closer look and found out

that the x server on this terminal is xfree 3.3.5.

there is no "grabber" process running (like the very slow

hexonet x0rfbserver)!!

in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file there

is following entry:

Section "Module"

  Load "vnc.so"

EndSection

after searching for hours on the "harddisk" (some kind of flash)

i've found a file under /usr/X11R6/lib/modules called vnc.so (size ~100K).

how does this work? the att or tridia releases are "only"

stand-alone x servers.

i could not find a xfree3 or xfree4 vnc module for a "normal"

x server on the xfree86, neoware or vnv homepages.

can anybody tell me where to find this

module and/or source code and how to build/use/install it?

cheers,

pet.
