I had the same problem; enter the IP address of the host rather than the host name, it should connect without a problem. Also, make sure you have the latest client build, even if it is designated a beta release.
BTW, MacAddict also advocates using VNCThing from Purple Shark Software. My experience has shown that it does funny things to a WinNT box after terminating the connection; the local keyboard becomes unresponsive.
