Subject: More on TightVNC

I cannot comment on its utility in any particular enviroment, but here
is what I do.

An ISDN line comes into my house. From it we generate a POTS line with
an Ascend Pipeline 85. The POTS line goes to a stand-alone 56K modem.
That modem is plugged into a Sun Sparc 20 running Solaris 2.7 on 2 Ross
processors. CDE is run for the window on Solaris. PPP is configured
to auto dial one number. A pulldown launches "Connect to Work".

This launches a TightVNC connection. It dials on POTS and connects at
between 20 and 28K to W98 machine in the next area code.

An application is started through VNC. The W98 machine is configured
to then route to a local SNA network to a local IBM midsize. That
local IBM machine routes to Frame Relay cloud, opening a connection to
IBM heavy iron in yet a third area code.

Even with 4 telco connections and 6 windowing systems choked by a 24K
link, it is possible to do productive work. Truly amazing.

Your request sounds quite a bit less complex, but the size (in pixels)
and visual complexity of the desktop will strongly effect TightVNC
performance.

What's truely amazing to me is that you got all of that to work
consistantly!!!!
