Actually, they are all well documented, IMO as there's been some debate on 
the quality of the documentation, on the WinVNC documentation page 
(http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/winvnc.html).  I simply printed out the 
documentation, wrote the templates for my reg files out, modified the 
registry appropriately on a test machine to verify that my templates worked 
and incorporated the finished reg file into the network login script.

WinVNC 3.3.9 and other VNC products based on that release should remove the 
wallpaper by default.  I use Tight VNC 1.2.0 on any machines that need to 
make lower bandwidth connections.  As to restricting the viewer to 8bits, 
there is no way to actually do this at present.  There is one approach to 
simulating the restriction:  Create a config file for each connection that 
will be made and use the viewer with the -config switch.  We incorporated 
the -config switch into the default open command for .vnc config files.  As 
long as your users only connect using the config files they'll only connect 
using whatever preset options you want.
