There is a work around: disable password protection of the screensaver and
lock the desktop manually using <ctrl>+<alt>+<del> and "Lock workstation".
You also can do that when You are connected to Your server via VNC. Then You
have to use the menu item "send ctrl+alt+del" from the system menu.

I tried this. Works fine.
