Concerning this problem, I have exactly the same problem. I tried the
solution given by Paul Schneider but it did not work. I then deactivated my
second card (the one not linked to the Internet) and it was not working
either. Then I reactivated it and activated the Internet sharing and it did
not work either. In other words I tried all combinations without success in
trying the Viewer to communicate via telephone ISP to my VNC server which
is directly linked to the Internet by cable.
However here are some additional facts in case it tells somebody something:
When the two cards are active, VNC (when I point to its icon with the
mouse) displays two IP addresses, the actual Internet address and its
static address (192.168.0.1) as LAN server. VNC in this case works properly
within the LAN, of course (but not via telephone connection to the Internet).
When I deactivate Internet sharing, the IP address displayed is the typical
static address 192.168.0.1 valid only within the LAN. Worse, in this case,
Internet is not responding any more at all on the server (I tried with
Netscape)!!!
When I deactivate only the second card (the one not linked to Internet but
serving the LAN), the actual Internet IP address is correctly displayed by
VNC and Netscape works (but the telephone Viewer does not work).
When I deactivate both the second card and Internet sharing, address
127.0.0.1 (a wrong one, of course) is displayed by VNC.
I use Win98SE French version with the latest patches installed on my server.
On my remote machine, a DELL Latitude 600 portable (I think it is
irrelevant in this test as it never worked outside my LAN, but I give this
as an indication to those who believe it might have something to do in the
non-working in at least one of the cases which should have worked according
to the experience of Paul Schneider), I use Windows 2000 Professional
French version with the latest patches and service packs installed.
If you have a serious hint of solution, please cc me in addition to sending
to the list, as I only subscribe to the Digest list.
Best regards to all.
