i agree entirely, i'm not fond of the idea of having unnecessary files in
the / dir, the solution i provided earlier was just a quick
get-out-of-trouble, so heres a quick hack to solve the problem of
unnecessary files in the / directory, this does involve changing the startup
scripts so please dont blame me if anything goes wrong:
find the file /etc/rc.d/init.d/vncserver and load it up in an editor (it
should be in this directory - i've only got mandrake installed at the mo but
i'm fairly sure redhat will b the same)
near the top of the file u will see the following two lines:
echo -n "Starting VNC server: "
daemon vncserver
change this 2:
echo -n "Starting VNC server: "
export HOME=/root
daemon vncserver
save it, delete all the uneccessary stuff such as /.Xauthority etc. u can
also get rid of the /.vnc directory now as everything will run out of the
/root directory as it would if u had started the server
manually........reboot and give it a try.......
