Hi Liam, Yes, there is a patch which does what you want. It is called the "display only password" patch. It is written by Warren Toomey, and available at: http://minnie.tuhs.org/Programs/VNC_bits/index.html It adds a second password to the Xvnc server, which disables keyboard and mouse input. The primary password retains full permission for keyboard and mouse input. I have used this patch (in addition to Warren's zlib patch) since December 1999, and it works fine. One warning: if you set both passwords to the same string, it will be interpreted as a "display only password", because the encrypted display only password is compared against, first. I've searched the archives and seen this question asked, but not answered. Is there a patch or a configuration that makes this possible? The reason I'd like to do this at the server is that we want to display a desktop in a classroom like situation. The lecturer will have an application open, and the attendees would connect to it. Because the lecture will be open to attendees across the Internet, we'd like to disable their ability to accidentally interfere with the lecturer's control of the desktop. Relying on the attendees to use the -viewonly option is not "good" enough in our opinion. It's an extra burden on them and a real hassle for the lecturer to have to deal with when someone forgets.
