Try the ? option of the AuthHosts registry key. It's supposed to pop up a
dialog asking the user to accept the connection.

Subject: Using vnc as a helpdesc solution : security question !

Hi,

We would like to use vnc as a tool for our helpdesc (and remote
configurations).
We would want to be able to connect to any workstation regardless of whether
the user is present or not :
* During working hours, we would use the vnc connection to assist the
user on his request and of couse with his approval
* After working hours (or when the user is not present) we would like
to use vnc, as well, to remotely operate on the users machines without the
user's intervention.

Now our management agrees, but only if we proove we (the IT department) is
NOT
able to connect to a users workstation, and then silently follow the users
actions while he's working on his workstation and without this user knowing
the it-department is watching over his shoulders.

I know that each time a connection is made to the users machine the vnc-icon
in the task-bar, switches color. However our management considers this not
enough as a signal to the user that the it-department is watching. There
opinion is that a user concentrated on his work, might not observe the
icon-switch.
Therefore they would like to see a more clear signal. If possible they would
like to see vnc implemented with a clear message box popping up and warning
the user that the it-department is about to connect to his workstation,
offering the user the choice to deny or allow the it-department to access
his/her workstation. In the case the user is not present (or doesn't react),
the connection would be allowed after a timer-interval has elapsed.

Could you please give us any hints or information that could help us putting
together the solution ?

Thanks very much in advance for your help
Jo
