Hi there,
I am using WinVNC on a server, based in Missouri, that I access remotely from
the UK and also from the US.
We installed VNC on the machine before we shipped it out to Missouri, and we
access it via VNCviewer or using the browser/java applet.
We are using Windows98.
The problem is that every so often the server locks up on us and, according to
the guy on site in Missouri who is looking after our machine, gives a Windows
blue screen of death everytime we try and reboot. In fact everytime we attempt
to reboot the machine we get a BsoD - which, because we are only able to
access the machine remotely, presents us with a big problem! We end up having
to wait for the network admin in Missouri to come along, notice the problem
and manually press the RESET button before we can use the server again - which
can be several days.
Windows claims that there is a problem with the following file: v128rm - which
we have tracked down to a 3dfx Voodoo 3 video card driver. We have updated the
drivers to see if it was a corrupted file but the problem has not gone away.
I think that our problem has something to do with VNC and the way it
interfaces with video drivers OR the network.
Can anyone shed any light on this? We are really, really stuck.
Is there anything we should reconfigure with VNC or the network to get it
working okay again??
If you got this far, thanks for reading!! Any help would be very much
appreciated,
Matt Phelps
