Dear all (...at least, those of you with Macs and ChromiVNC Server)

The recent release of ChromiVNC Server v3.4 alpha 4 has brought about
the need for some minor changes to vncPatches68k.

vncPatches68k for alpha 4 is now available:

http://wrench.et.ic.ac.uk/adrian/software/vnc/

Once downloaded and unbinhexed you will have a file called:

 vncPatches68k-a4

Drop this file into your Extensions Folder.

Please make sure you remove any other 'vncPatches'-type files from
your Extensions folder before you restart. (And it's worth checking
your System Folder and Control Panels folder just to be sure that
no others have gone astray!)

>> Brief overview of changes <<

1) The new ChromiVNC Server alpha 4 has changed the screen update
delay from the fixed two tick delay (thirtieth of a second) of the
alpha 3 release. Instead, it is now machine-dependent, varying from
two ticks to thirty ticks (half a second - for very slow machines).
vncPatches68k uses "update rectangle buffering" in an attempt to
improve throughput of screen updates, but relies upon knowing this
update delay. The latest vncPatches68k for alpha 4 now performs its
own 'machine test' so that it can match its "update rectangle
buffering" throughput to the server's delay.

2) Although the previous vncPatches68k for alpha 3 is compatible with
the latest server release, it is not an 'exact' match - and the
server will report this upon startup in its (new!) log file.
The latest vncPatches68k is now an 'exact' match for the alpha 4
   server.

>> Using the http server built into ChromiVNC Server v3.4 alpha 4 <<

Previous versions of Chromi/TridiaVNC Server lacked a http server,
making it impossible to connect to the VNC server via a browser.

The alpha 4 release now includes a http server, but it is currently
lacking the java and html files to make use of it. Also, even when
these files are present, the path to the folder containing them must
be manually edited into the "TridiaVNC Server Prefs" file (in the
Preferences folder).

If anyone would like to try out the http server in alpha 4, please
let me know and I can provide the necessary files, as well as some
instructions how to set it up.

Enjoy!
