Thanks for you reply Brian.

The point you make is very valid, and also true, BUT, in our experience this
does not work properly on our servers. We regularly have problems typing in
passwords on our servers due to a reversed Caps Lock.

Regarless of this, I have now compiled a modified version of WinVNC 3.3.3R7
which simlply does not reset the NumLock upon connection. This appears to be
working fine, and we will be putting it out on only the machines that really
have a problem with this.

Thanks again for all your help,

The only way for the VNC server to guarantee that the viewer and server
have the same NumLock and CapsLock settings is to disable both of them
when a VNC session/connection starts. Actually, that is not quite right
either. This is the only way to make sure the viewing (remote) user has
a consistent view of the server system. If the NumLock and CapsLock
settings on the server are not disabled, the viewing/remote user may
experience reverse or inconsistent settings from those shown on their
own
keyboard.

This behavior is great for remote administration and remote access.
However, for remote support, it would be very nice to be able to disable
this for the server/host user's benefit. As far as I know, this option
is not available in the currently available software.
