In the registry in:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
There should be a KEY (type REG_SZ) named WinVNC. That key should contain a
data value of:
"C:\Program Files\ORL\VNC\WinVNC.exe" -servicehelper
Of course the exact path depends on your VNC install.
If that registry entry is missing or incorrect, the ICON will not appear. Of
course, no one would do that deliberately... the ICON would disappear. ;-)
WinVNC must be running BEFORE the "servicehelper" starts. WinVNC runs as a
service. Depending on the number of services that a particular PC starts,
it's possible for the RUN command to be executed before the WinVNC service
is fully started (the command will fail and the servicehelper will not be
running). The standard install (I believe) provides a link to manually "Run
Service Helper" in START\Programs\WinVNC\Administrative Tools.
Try manually starting the service helper. If it starts, it MAY be a timing
issue.
If it really bothers you, get a routine like the SLEEP.EXE in the NT RESKIT.
Write a CMD file like:
c:\progra~1\orl\vnc\sleep.exe 15
c:\progra~1\orl\vnc\WinVNC.exe -servicehelper
and execute that command from the registry.

In my 1st mail I mentioned that I'm using the icon to get the IP-address. I

that's also possible to get the IP-address by using the command 'winipcfg'.

I'm also using the icon to close VNC by rigth-click mouse and press option
'close VNC'. Without icon at the taskbar, the only possibility to close VNC
is
with ctrl-alt-del-'end task'. Not the most beautiful way to do.
So please give me more suggestions to get the icon at the rigth of the
taskbar.
Additional question:
when there is not connected another pc to my pc, when hovering about the
VNC-icon, the IP-address of my pc is '127.0.0.1' . When typing 'winipcfg',
the
IP-address is 0.0.0.0. When another pc connects to my pc, the IP-address
will be
determinded. My question: this address, is this always the same address when
2
pc's are connected to each other, or will this address change everytime the
2
pc's makes a new connection to each other.
