Any got any ideas on implementing VNC on a Babbage difference engine or an
Abacus?

speaking of the Z80...

I have an old Timex\Sinclair TS1000 (sinclair zx81), that has a
wordprocessor
rom pack that totally takes over the system, replacing the 8k sinclair
basic rom with its own rom...

possibly a new rom for the wordprocessor pack could be burned...

...if the vnc display can be restructured for a black and white 64x42 pixel
screen.
