There aren't any messages at all, like connection refused or insuficient
priveledges or no route to host?
Try to use telnet to connect to the vnc port.
telnet your.machine.name 5900
That is, if your display number is :0; for :1 it would be 5901, etc.
Could firewall software be causing your grief?
