Almost all linux setups have a feature I would like vnc to emulate: shrewd key combinations (CTL-ALT-Fn) allow the user to cycle through 7 different working environments.

I would like to be able to cycle effortlessly between a full-screen X session powered by the machine driving the monitor and several other full-screen VNC sessions powered by different machines around my network. An idea similar to what I'm looking for is the 'virtual desktop switcher' that many linux users (including me) find almost essential. I just want a different machine driving each desktop.

Linux-friendly advice in any flavour would be most welcome: the machines we're talking about run assorted distros including gentoo, red hat, ubuntu, suse, and more. I want full screen access because my poor little thin client can only cope with 1024x768: I can't afford to waste space on window borders, handles, etc.

Thanks for any suggestions you might have. - Philip
