    Yes, you could run the executable wherever you like.  But keep in
mind that the viewer writes into the registry some config and connection
info (well, I'm talking about the Windows version).

    (2) is independent of (1), actually.  You input the server computer
name or its IP address, and eventually the display or port number if needed.
