You need to explain your setup a little more. Are you behind a dsl or cable modem ? If so, is one of these your internal address and the other one the address that presents itself to the rest of the internet ? Trying to ping from another computer that you want to connect from is the right idea, but you need to explain how you are getting more than one ip address.
