On two *particular* machines I get random vncviewer update image freeze. I have 7 other test machines that do not have this behavior. I need to find the cause, lest one of our customers have the same problem.
The nearest thread I could find on this is: http://www.realvnc.com/pipermail/vnc-list/2005-February/049267.html "A dodgy network connection could be caused by duff hardware, dodgy drivers, or a broken operating system installation. It could also be caused by any thrid-party firewall software that tries to be "intelligent"." Problem characterization: The viewer freeze is random, quite frequent. I have *no* network error messages. Reboot doesnt help. Seems related to network traffic bursts. Behaves same with or without VPN. Not related to sharer's CPU limits. Regarding VPN, I am aware of the MTU and PMTUD requirements as per http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/105/38.shtml#win2k http://www.realvnc.com/pipermail/vnc-list/2005-November/053062.html I have disabled PMTUD and reduced the MTU and this wonderfully fixes VPN disconnects... for my reliable test machines. The behavior of these 2 machines, strangely, behaves similarly to the PMUTD/MTU VPN situation in that the viewer freezes happen iwth bursts of sharer screen activity and the network "disappears" without SocketException or IOException. These machines are older hardware, were updated for XP system by our IT group. Here is the specs for the two broken machines: netw adapter: Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet 12/15/06 Driver Version 10.24.0.0;; PCI bus 5, device 2, function 0. System: XP Pro version 2002 SP2, Intel Xeon CPU 2.4 GHz Possible Fixes: Update the network adaptor card? Might I have the IT group update video drivers? update OS? Thanks for your support lists! they are very helpful.
