I have a question regarding the VNC server icon in the tray. I'll explain
what I use VNC for and then explain the problem.
I work in a hospital with 1000+ PC's all running VNC server. when a user
calls with a simple problem, we can usually VNC into their machine and fix
the problem remotely. When we call a user, the first thing we ask for is
their PC name or their IP address. If they don't know it we tell them to
hover their mouse over the white VNC icon next to the time in the lower
right hand corner. What happens 99% of the time is as follows:
You could also ask for the last numbers...
Since some time, we use 'bginfo' from http://www.systinternals.com/.
That displays a lot of information on top of the background. This is
verry much customizable. You can create your own 'desktop.bgi' file that
shows some system info, including the machine name and IP address. Then
distribute that over the desktops and off you go.
User: Ok, It says "VNC Server (service): 129.1. . o wait, it went away"
Me: That's ok, just re-hover again and read me just the numbers.
My question is: Is there a way to get the pop-up that shows the user the IP
when hovering their mouse over the VNC tray icon to stay up longer, or
permanently until the mouse is done hovering?
You are right, it should stay open until the mouse hovers away.
This would help make things a little more seamless during user help calls.
Thanks for any information in advance!
