Ok, I deleted the UDP rule (although I still can't get it to work).

As an experiment, I changed the private IP port in the router rule from
192.168.2.4 to 192.168.2.2 which is the IP address of a Windows ME computer
on my network. Then when I go to that computer (or any computer on my
network for that matter) and I run that same script I get:

------------------------------------------------------------
The IP address requesting this web page is 71.141.147.191
Connecting to port 5900 ... succeeded.
Waiting for server to send version string...
Found a server supporting protocol version 3.8.
------------------------------------------------------------

However if I change the router rule port to .3 or .4 which point to two
different windows XP computers, the script attempting to connect to port
5900 fails.

Any more ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Paul,

VNC doesn't use UDP, so you don't need a rule for that.

You may wish to check which port your VNC Server is accepting connections
on, and that the private IP address you're specifying is definitely correct.

I assume you're visiting the nettest.cgi script from a browser on the server
computer, not the viewer, of course... :)

Cheers,

I installed and ran the VNC server and set up my Belkin
router to forward port 5900 as follows:

Enable Description Inbound port Type Private IP Private port
------ ----------- ------------ ---- ----------- ------------
  x RealVNC1 5900 - 5900 TCP 192.168.2.4 5900 - 5900
  x RealVNC2 5900 - 5900 UDP 192.168.2.4 5900 - 5900

However when I go to:

http://www.realvnc.com/cgi-bin/nettest.cgi

I see this:

The IP address requesting this web page is 71.141.142.96
Connecting to port 5900 ... failed.

I tried pinging my ip address with the following results:
--------------------------------------------------------
>ping 71.141.142.96

--------------------------------------------------------

When I hover the mouse of the Vnc icon in the system tray,
it says "VNC (Server) Service:192.168.2.4"

Any clues why this could be happening?
I've read all the directions dozens of times and it
seems like I've done everything that is required.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.
