I'll have to explain the four sites in order to help keep them straight... My office: I have FIOS (VerizonDSL) and a DLink router. Ports 5800 and 5900 are forwarded to a W2K server running DynDNS updater and VNC server 4.x. I am also using my XP laptop as a client. New Jersey (NJ): I have a W2K server running DynDNS updater and VNC server 4.x (and a security application). Uses a CableTV-Modem service. Florida (FL): Duplicate of New Jersey, except uses BellsouthDSL. A Friend: Near my office, but uses CableTV-Modem service. Also has Vonage. Has two routers in series (odd...) - first is Vonage router (192.168.15.x), then "regular" home wireless+router (192.168.0.x). VNC ports are set to pass from one router to the next, to a PC. I do not have exact router model information. --- >From my office laptop, I can connect to ANY/ALL of the other three server >sites without probem. I get the "Black Screen" when I connect from NJ to FL. I get the "Black Screen" when I connect from my laptop at "friend" to FL. I can connect from my laptop (Office site) to FL, open the client on FL, and connect to NJ. I can connect from my laptop (Office site) to "friend", open the client on "friend", and connect to NJ (and my office), but NOT to FL. In short, the problem occurs only when connecting to FL, and only from "friend" and NJ locations. --- I am concerned it could be a carrier issue, because only the sites that use CableTV-modems cannot connect to FL - and the DSL site does not have a problem. Has this been seen anywhere else? I have seen posts mentioning MTU size issues. The NJ router is an older Netgear that does not have an MTU setting. The FL router is a newer Netgear set to 1500. My office DLink is set to 1492. Could this be it? What do I change? Is the "friend" site a red herring, because its really the odd router(s) config causing the problem? If so, how to explain the fact that all other in/out sessions work, except FL? Are there any other suggestions anyone can make to help me resolve this? Other things to test? Thanks.
