If this is installed from the vnc packages as supplied with Debian Woody, try to run `vncpasswd.real` and supply a vncpassword. Then you can run `vncserver` and all should go right.


can not connect. when i ask the viewer to connect, a pop up comes up and
says: vncserver: and requests the ip or name. when i input the ip and press
enter, nothing happens, all it does is that it goes to the next line like a
text editor. what am i doing wrong?

Not much, I think the starting of vncserver gave an error you missed.
