The second of which paragraph gives this advice:

        ... To find out your current IP address "automatically", just
        open a web-browser to http://www.whatismyipaddress.com. Then
        just tell that number to someone trying to connect with you,
        and you'll soon be connected.

To supplement that functionality, in situations such as I believe
Frank was asking about, where he is not at the machine he wants to
connect to, one could use:

        wget -O mypresentIP http://www.whatismyipaddress.com

and have the file 'mypresentIP' mailed to yourself periodically.
(Of course this procedure is a bit redundant, since the mail headers
themselves should contain your Internet-routable address.

But some folks like complexity...)
