Thanks for the reply. I had only forwarded port 5800 through my router at home. I'll try it with both ports forwarded and see what happens.
The proxy does allow 5800 through as I'm able to get to the login page. I believe this is handled because my web browser is configured to use the proxy. I'll try forwarding both ports on my router at home and then see if the Java applet comms also pass through the proxy.
