We administer a Windows 2000 Advanced Server via VNC.

With the Blaster worm virus, I first tried to bring
SP2 up to SP3, but there were IIS issues. Everything
else continued to function. The install first aborted
with a \WINNT\SYSTEM32\INETSRV\METABASE.BIN
error. (fix is to remove IE, erase METABASE.BIN, then
reinstall IE) But IIS is still not happy. And the SP3
now just halts with no specific error (I believe removing
IIS components, finishing the patch, then installing, and
applying the patch again is the solution based on:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&th=7135b7867cf1dcd2&seekm=b366afe0.0308061551.785f5210%40posting.google.com&frame=off

So, I went ahead and applied the virus patch.

However, from the moment I applied the MS patch (from):

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulltin/MS03-026.asp

I am unable to connect, the response is:

"Your connection has been rejected"

I am able to ping the machine.

So, did MS just do something to wall out VNC ?? Or,
are my partial SP3 issues showing up?

Regards,

Dr. Priest
