VCN Client screens don't completely update

When I run the VNC viewer on a Windows 98 machine- I can connect and view 
the host machine just fine.
However, when I run programs on the host, that occasionally pop up some 
kind of input dialogues, these dialogues
do not show up on the client, even after I request a screen refresh.

Has anyone else seen this or know of a solution ?
