I would have posted the link to the FAQ entry, but I couldn't find it. If you're using mandrake, edit your /$HOME/.vnc/xstartup file and make it only have the following two lines:
#!/bin/sh exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc then save it and ensure that the file is executable. That way, whatever you set your default desktop to, it'll show up in vnc. You know, this is an often enough asked question that I wonder if the install scripts shouldn't check to see if /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc exists, and adjust the entry in the .vnc/xstartup file?
