Hi everybody,

I am very, very new to VNC. I am currently using PC Anywhere to connect from
home to my office PC.

I read all the advice on configuring a firewall and a proxy server, at my
office, to enable my PC at the office to serve as host when I want to
connect from home via the Internet (dial up connection).

Some other service provider has come up with a service whereby you can
connect to your office PC (behind a firewall and proxy server), after
installing their host software, from anywhere on the Internet without having
to make changes to the firewall or proxy server. What you do is to log on to
their (Internet) server and then through connect to your PC.

I believe they do this by the host (i.e. your PC at the office, while
connected to the Internet) pinging their (Internet) server every 15 seconds
through either port 80, 443 or 8200. When you then log on via the Internet
to their server a direct connection is established with your PC at the
office. It works fine. Tte only problem is that they charge you quite a big
amount per month for this service.

Any comments on this and possibility for VNC to do this ? I guess, if this
is to work for VNC, the VNC host software will have to be set up to ping
just one server (being the PC at home from which I would like to connect).
(Assuming that there will not be a single server on the NET just for this
purpose, like the service described above). Therefore, it would not be
possible to access the server (PC at the office) from any other PC except
the one at home because the host (PC at the office) is only pinging one IP
address.. This is better than nothing, for me though.

Regards,

Wouter.
