Hi,

Trying VNC actually, I encounter some serious problems. Thanks to Scott Best
I understand much better now how it all works, but there are still lots of
questions...

The most important one (for me, but I guess also for others) is,
is it possible to get infected by viruses using VNC ?

I'll tell you what happened:
I installed VNC server & viewer on 2 PC of my LAN. On the LAN there was no
problem to view the otherone's desktop and execute softs.
Through Internet, it was not the same. At 1 PC there's an external modem
connected. The other one is sharing this dialup connection through ICS.
I subscribed an account at NO-IP, added a host, downloaded DUC to update and
retrieve the dynamically attributed IP address.
I installed the VNC viewer on a notebook to access remotely my LAN PC's.
So I connected the LAN to internet, retrieved the IP address with DUC,
connected (through an other ISP) the Notebook and attempted to remote
control the desktop PC. It was not possible to connect because VNC could not
connect to te server (message from the viewer).
I deconnected the Notebook and tried to connect again.
Surprise, the AV blocked the rundll32.exe file cause infected by DUPATOR.
After a complete scan, it revealed that 5 files were infected by Dupator or
Opas-A.

So, my conclusion is : the Notebook never connects to Internet (before this
trial), was not infected by any virus (bootup scan never revealed a virus)
and was infected after having tried to remote control my own PC's through
internet (these PC's are not infected).
NO-IP certifies that their softs are not involved and they say that VNC is
not able to do this.

I would like to ask you these questions :
1. Have you ever experienced such a thing ?
2. Do you think that DUC could have transmitted a fake IP address just to
point the viewer to that address ?
3. If the VNC viewer was pointing to my PC connection, how is it possible
that viruses are retrieved by this connection ?
4. Any help is welcome .... :-)

Thanks and sorry for my bad English.
