I am new and have been trying to get VNC to access my home computer (WIN XP)
from work (WIN XP). I am on cable at home (RoadRunner) and have been
messing with my Linksys 4 port router to get it working with VNC. The
bottom line is, if you have a Linksys BFESR41 (I think that's the model
number) router software says to DISABLE DHCP to get port forwarding to work;
that is wrong! What I did is enable port 5900 as that is the port VNC looks
at, set my VNC machine outside of the range of IP's that DHCP will assign
and add the DNS data. Once that is done, and you have enabled port
forwarding on 5900, things work. What is going on is that I have
established my home machine as a "static" IP forwarded to port 5900. The
other machines are still on DHCP from the router.

Thanks all for he help here!

Tony
