One option, if you have the money, and if you do a lot of traveling is this: The Sendero Group has a program and a set of maps that you can download and install on a desktop or laptop PC with which you can explore your location and surroundings. You can find points of interest as well as plan and view a turn by turn route from your location to your destination.
If this is not a viable option, I recommend the Seeing Eye app for your iDevice. My reasons are given in a post to this list when asked for an assessment of that app. HTH. --- Be positive!
