Hi Annie, The field report gives you feedback on how well you have the camera positioned over the item you are trying to read. You are correct. Ideally, a field report will tell you that you have all of the edges in the picture. With that said, it is not absolutely necessary to have all the edges in the camera's view to have text read to you. Today, I took what I thought was junk mail and made sure the top edge was in the field range. I did this thinking the return address would be in the upper left hand corner. In this case the return address was read quickly and accurately. Another thing I do to help with alignment is to line the edge of what I am trying to read with the edge of my desk or kitchen counter.
Do you have the tilt feature turned on? This has been extremely helpful for me. My experience has been if you receive the message, "no text," you have the camera too close to the item you are trying to read. I think the recommended distance is between eight and ten inches.
