Hi Joanne,.

I honestly haven't used Apple Maps or Google Maps enough to get into all the
details. But I think the main attraction of an app like Seeing Eye app is
the fact that it will do what Blindsquare and any other map app does in one
and, presumeably, do it better. I think the holy crail of GPS/navigation
apps for the blind is the level of feedback provided by the app. Commercial
apps like Navigon which do an awesome job for vehicle navigation just are
not set up to give a person who can't see the on-screen map the amount of
detail most people want such as upcoming cross streets and, if possible what
kind of intersection you are dealing with.

Blindsquare does an awesome job announcing upcoming cross streets and I
think I heard rumours that they are working on providing intersection
details like which streets you are dealing with and what direction said
streets go. This I think is one of the strength of the Seeing Eye app and if
Blindsquare manages to get this done for $20 or whatever the app costs then
it will be a very awesome upgrade.

I still think there is something to be said for having 1 app which can do it
all, but of course if this app is way more expensive than anything else
there will be resistance by a lot of people. We are starting to get used to
having a main stream device at our finger tips and also can enjoy many main
stream apps with good accessibility. The more this happens the less people
are willing to spend extra money for apps that are specifically developed
for the blind and which sell at a premium.

In the end it's all personal choice and how you set your priorities. But I
think $9.95 is an attractive offer and one which for most people is
affordable and low enough to at least try the app.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Sieghard,

I would very much like to know your take on the app, compare to apple maps
and google maps and even blind square.
I guess, it iwll be nice to have something available that blind people are
use to, and know comfortablely well. But, what is the advantage over say,
apple maps, or google maps?
Looking forward for your findings when you get to use them.

Cheers
