Hi Edward,

The point is that I do not want to set all my notifications to none or turn
off any lock-screen reading or automatic reading of text messages, emails,
push notifications etc. Why do I have a fancy smartphone if I disable a good
portion of what makes it so good? I must be a real dinosaur here, but I
usually like to give my full attention to somebody if I am talking to them
on the phone. If I am talking to a customer on my business landline, I might
use the computer to look up inventory for them or whatever directly concerns
them, but I don't listen to the news, write an emai to somebody else or do
things which otherwise distract me from talking to the person on the other
end.
Any work arounds that exist are good to know and may be useful in some
situations, but they don't address the underlying issue.

And thanks, Cara, for supporting my argument, let's hope iOS 7 really does
have some good accessibility improvements as well.

Regards,
Sieghard

the landline

Just a thought, couldn't you just turn the banner notification, or alerts
to none, in the notification center and wouldn't this stop VO from
chattering? You could just leave the phone setting to banner then you would
here if you had another call coming in? You would still get your alerts and
even get the sound and not the chatter to let you know when you get an
alert.
