It may be how the app works, but also indicates that the app is not accessible to the extent that it should be. What that is indicating is that voiceover is not really recognizing the field you are typing into as an edit field. When this happens, usually you can not interact with the edit field fully as you can with an edit field that Voiceover recognizes properly as what it is. I suspect it means the developer needs to do something to tag the field in a way that voiceover is told about the edit field. It is just like the Ever note app when you are typing in the body of a note. It does the same thing you are describing. You can not navigate through the edit field with voiceover gestures, you can not delete and have it speak the character that was deleted and you can not select the text in the field, or copy or paste within the field. This is where I do not have a complete technical understanding of what exactly is involved, but I suspect from what I have heard that this is likely a simple fix by adding some tag attribute to the field by the developer.
