Hi All, I came across this iPad only app that is free today: • 4th of July - Auracle (free on March 3, 2013, usually lists for $1.99) by Auryn Inc. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/4th-of-july-auracle/id446275675?mt=8
This is an app that opens with a blank screen, but if you double tap on the screen, it shoots off fireworks with explosions. A sighted user will see the visual effects, apparently lighting up sections of the Declaration of Independence, when the fireworks go off. You can run this with VoiceOver on or off. I'm not sure whether the locations of the firework outbursts change with VoiceOver on, but with each double tap (or tap on the screen if VoiceOver is turned off), you'll get the sound effects and outbursts. Auryn Inc. makes interactive children's books and is doing free promotions of their apps each day for March national reading month, but most of the apps I tried don't seem to be accessible. They do make lite versions that can be tried out for free. Kind of a neat app if you want to impress your sighted kids. And the sound effects are whistlers as well as bursts of various sorts -- from bangs to more muted. Only a version for the iPad, and only free today. I caught this late. HTH.
