A split tap is where for example you touch an app, but instead of double tapping to activate it, you simply touch it and then while still touching the app, tap anywhere else on the screen. Or if you are typing in standard typing mode, you touch and hold on a letter and then touch anywhere else on the screen to place that letter into the edit field.
